Macoskey Center plans Earth Day event
SLIPPERY ROCK — The Macoskey Center at Slippery Rock University is welcoming more than just students to celebrate Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22, with activities designed to get people involved in sustainability.
Attendees can enjoy hands-on activities, interactive tours, hydroponics and sustainable technology demonstrations, student research showcases, and even meet the chickens who live at the center. The event is designed to be fun and engaging for community members, families and the entire SRU campus, according to the center.
Josie Hart, multimedia and graphic communications intern with the center, said there will be volunteer activities and educational events throughout the month to give people hands-on interaction with the center’s environmental elements. Some of these events include working on the center’s recently added accessible trail, joining in on a sustainable cooking class and helping to remove invasive species.
The open house is a glimpse into all the activities available at the center.
“Our open house and Earth Month is just about bringing sustainability to life in an understandable and approachable way,” Hart said. “It’s important for people to experience it.”
The open house takes place from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Macoskey Center, 247 Harmony Road in Slippery Rock. It is free to attend.
