Of Note: The Lewis and Clark Boat House and Museum brings the remarkable journey of 1803-06 to life at our riverfront base of operations in historic St. Charles, Missouri. And we share the story of the Expedition at destinations throughout the Midwest via our unique traveling fleet of replica boats and our experienced corps of re-enactors, the Discovery Expedition of St. Charles.

Of Note: The Lewis & Clark State Historic Site commemorates Camp River Dubois – the winter encampment for Meriwether Lewis, William Clark, and their soldiers from December 12, 1803 to May 14, 1804. It was at the Camp River Dubois that members of the Corps of Discovery prepared their Expedition across North America through training and gathering supplies.

Missouri River Basin Lewis & Clark Visitor Center

Of Note: The flora and fauna (178 new plants and 122 new animals) and scientific discoveries recorded by the Lewis & Clark Expedition (1804-1806) are the focus of the Center. This theme is exciting and unique because no other museum or interpretive center in the nation, existing or planned, focuses on the captains’ amazing scientific discoveries.

Of Note: The Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail Interpretive Center imparts to the public a personal sense of President Thomas Jefferson's vision of expanding America to the west; it inspires awe and awakens curiosity toward the challenges faced by the expedition as they portaged the great falls of the Missouri River and explored the 'unknown'; brings to life the daily experiences of the expedition and the environment and native peoples of the 'uncharted West'; and celebrates the indomitable spirit of human discovery we all share.

Of Note: Captains Lewis and Clark animatronics give visitors an inside look at how the Captains and their men were affected by the death of Sgt. Charles Floyd, the only member of the expedition to die during the expedition in present-day Sioux City, Iowa.

Of Note: Standing high on the cliffs at Cape Disappointment State Park, Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center tells the story of the Lewis and Clark Expedition and Chinook tribe, as well as local maritime and military history.

Of Note: The Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail winds nearly 4,900 miles through the homelands of more than 60 Tribal nations. It follows the historic outbound and inbound routes of the Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1803-1806 from Pittsburgh, Pa. to the Pacific Ocean. Follow the trail to find the people, places, and stories that make up the complex legacy of the expedition.

Of Note: Step into the Fort Clatsop replica at Lewis and Clark National Historical Park, and you’ll get a real sense of what the Corps of Discovery experienced more than 200 years ago. During peak visitor season rangers in buckskins offer demonstrations such as flintlock gun shooting, hide tanning, and candle making.

Of Note: The Lewis and Clark Monument Scenic Overlook in Council Bluffs was dedicated in 1936 honoring the 1804 expedition of Lewis and Clark and their historic meeting with Otoe and Missouri Tribesmen.
