Rescue tool utilized to free crash victim
CRANBERRY TWP — The Jaws of Life tool was used to rescue one person in a crash Tuesday afternoon on Executive Drive.
The three-vehicle crash occurred about 3 p.m. near the Costco entrance. Two people were injured.
The Jaws of Life, a trademarked name for a hydraulic rescue tool made by Hurst, was used to free the entrapped driver of a Nissan Sentra.
The Sentra had heavy driver’s side damage after being struck by a GMC Acadia. The driver’s side door of the car was removed to get to the driver.
The female driver, who was conscious, was rescued and taken by ambulance to a hospital for her injuries.
The male passenger in the Sentra also was injured and taken to a hospital via ambulance. He wore a neck brace and was conscious on a gurney.
The driver of the Acadia was uninjured.
It is unknown if charges will be filed.
The exit from Costco was blocked and traffic heading north on Executive Drive had to use Cranberry Square Drive as a detour.
Both vehicles were towed away about 3:40 p.m.
The township police, the volunteer fire department and EMS were at the scene.
