Butler man gets 20 years for leading drug trafficking ring

A Butler County resident was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison after being convicted of fentanyl, heroin and cocaine trafficking as leader of a group operating through Butler and Philadelphia.

Qureem Overton, 43, was found guilty by a grand jury in October 2024 of possession and conspiring to distribute at least 40 grams of fentanyl, as well as additional quantities of heroin and cocaine, between January 2017 and June 2020.

Overton was sentenced by United States District Judge Robert J. Colville. Following his sentence of incarceration, Overton will be under eight years of supervised release.

A news release from United States Attorney Troy Rivetti said Overton was “the leader of a multiyear Philadelphia-to-Butler pipeline” for fentanyl, heroin and cocaine trafficking.

The news release said Overton moved to Butler after serving past state prison sentences for aggravated assault, robbery and drug trafficking. It said he then recruited drug dealers, including “many from the Philadelphia area,” to work for him in Butler and that he “attempted to hide behind those dealers by having them complete drug deals he repeatedly orchestrated.”

Pennsylvania State Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Butler County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force were involved in the investigation leading to Overton’s prosecution, the release said.
