Attorney charged with embezzling $1.3 million from incline

A Pittsburgh attorney was indicted by a federal grand jury after being charged with embezzling $1.3 million from the incline preservation society. The society operates the Duquesne Incline.

Christopher Furman, 53, was president of the board of trustees for the Society for the Preservation of the Duquesne Heights Incline. He is charged with 10 counts of wire fraud and money laundering.

A news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania said the indictment alleges Furman transferred the money into his own account via more than 25 electronic transactions, then transferred that money to an online cryptocurrency exchange where he purchased and sold cryptocurrency for his personal profit.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation leading to the indictment.
