Frank Theodore Smith III, 81, of North Washington, passed away early Monday morning, March 16, 2026, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born Jan. 18, 1945, in North Washington. He was the son of Frank Jr. and Leola (Campbell) Smith.

Frank married Paula Bruce on May 29, 1964, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 2, 2022.

He worked as a diesel mechanic for 38 years at ARMCO in Butler.

In his spare time, he enjoyed car cruises, tinkering in his garage, making a mess of things with his tractor, racing stock cars in his younger years and spending time with his family and friends. Frank never passed up a good B.S. session with anyone.

Frank was a member of the Butler Area Street Machines car club.

He is survived by a son, Kenneth Smith, and his wife, Karen, of Chicora; three grandchildren and their spouses, Paul and Lauren Smith, of Butler, Kurt and Maddie Smith, of Lower Burrell, and Kayla Smith, of Chicora; and two sisters, Jeane Smith, of Hooker, and Mindy Stroup and her husband, Ken, of Karns City. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Sue Hilliard and Becky Dunmire.

SMITH — A memorial service for Frank Theodore Smith III, who died Monday, March 16, 2026, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 19, at H. JACK BUZARD FUNERAL HOME, 201 S. Washington St., Eau Claire.

Interment will be in the Mount Varnum Cemetery, Washington Township, Butler County.
