Moraine State Park events for March

Moraine State Park has a full schedule of special events lined up for the month of March.

March 14, 12:30 p.m.: In honor of Women’s History Month, history buffs are invited to join a park naturalist on a 2.5-mile hike along the Glacier Ridge Trail, on Moraine’s North Shore, to learn about some of the women who have made a historic impact on conservation in America. Meet at the east end of the 528 boat launch in Franklin Township. Be sure to dress for the weather and bring sturdy footwear.

March 20, 5 p.m.: Nature enthusiasts are invited to join a park naturalist at the McDanels Launch Area in Worth Township for the Busy Beaver Promenade, a 1.5-mile hike along the North Country Trail to learn about all about the largest rodent in North America. Participants are encouraged to look out for any signs of beaver activity during the hike.

March 21, 9 a.m.: Bird-watchers will find plenty to enjoy at Moraine’s waterfowl observation area near Lake Arthur, which is home to mallards, wood ducks and ruddy ducks. See how many can be spotted on the waterfowl walk, and maybe some more exotic fowl might be passing through. Meet near the Region 2 office on Park Road in Franklin Township. Binoculars may be available, but it is recommended to bring a pair.

March 21, 10 a.m.: A fun instructional workshop for adults interested in learning how to grow oyster mushrooms on logs in their backyard. Held at Pavilion 7 at the McDanels Launch Area. Registration is required. Cost is $10.

March 28, 10 a.m.: In the lead-up to Easter, join park staff for a morning of egg-dyeing at the McDanels Launch Area. All materials will be provided. This is a free event, but registration is required.
