James Weis

Weis

James Allen Weis, 93, of Titusville, Pa., passed away peacefully in the early morning of Friday, Feb. 13, 2026.

Jim was born Feb. 12, 1933, in Broughton, Pa., and was the second son of the late George R. and Marion Work Weis.

He was a graduate of Carrick High School, Class of 1950. Following high school, he enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh but was drafted and served in the U.S Army Signal Corp 513/202 MIB at Fort Monmouth, N.J. He was assigned briefly at Fort Myer and the Pentagon before being deployed to Asmara, Eritrea, and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (then still one country) in East Africa during the Korean War period. Jim was honorably discharged in 1955 and worked briefly for Bell Telephone/AT&T.

James married Phyllis M. Dodd in Pittsburgh on Sept. 3, 1955. They began a family and Jim resumed college. Jim attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy, graduating in the Class of 1960, and began graduate studies. Phyllis passed away in February 1961. They had three small children.

James married Loretta Jane Brothers on May 31, 1961, in Winchester, Va., and they moved to Titusville later that year. Loretta adopted Jim's three children and they had a fourth child together. Loretta passed away in March 2022.

Jim worked as a registered pharmacist for over 50 years. He worked for the Upjohn Company and later McAndrew Drug Store in Titusville. Jim transitioned to hospital pharmacy, developing and implementing unit dose drug distribution systems at Union City and Corry hospitals with guidance from Sister Agatha (Sister Marjorie Adams) from Saint Vincent Hospital in Erie. Jim also worked for Morse Rexall Drug Store in Union City before building his own store, a true family effort, Jim’s Drug Store in Union City. After a fire destroyed Jim’s Drug Store in 1979, Jim worked at Titusville Hospital and later for several chain companies. Jim finished his pharmacy career as a consultant for Pine Grove Surgery Center in Russell, Pa.

While a pharmacist, Jim left a legacy of professional and dedicated service. Jim and Loretta hosted and were preceptor to a number of pharmacy students to help prepare new generations of pharmacists. Jim conducted drug abuse prevention programs at both Union City and Titusville high schools, served on the Venango County Comprehensive Health Planning Committee and Erie County Pharmaceutical Association.

In addition to his beloved wife, Loretta, James was preceded in death by his parents; and older brother, George F. Weis, in 2002; and a grandson, Jesse Daniel Weis, in 2022.

James is survived by his four children, Aimee Weis-Russo and husband, Mike, of Hidden Valley Lake, Calif., Timothy Weis, of Titusville, Emilee Langer and husband, Mike, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Andrew Weis, of Titusville; three grandchildren, Tera Lynn Ellsworth and partner, Joshua Lyon, of Santa Rosa, Calif., Alex Langer and partner, Kimmen LeBeau, of Denver, Colo., and Samuel Langer, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three great-grandchildren, Elijah and Ethan Lyon, of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Rowan Langer, of Denver, Colo.
