Ben F. Carothers, 74, of West Sunbury, passed away the morning of Monday, Feb. 23, 2026, at Butler Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family.

He was born Dec. 14, 1951, in Grove City, the son of the late Miriam Miller Stevenson Carothers and Harvey D. Carothers.

Ben was a member of the Moraine Sportsmen’s Club and Boyers Sportsmen’s Association. He worked at J.W. Steel Fabricating Co. until his retirement in 2013. Ben enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding his Harley.

Ben is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Sue Carothers; his son, Neal Carothers, of Florida; two sisters, Diana (Edward) Hougg, of Chicora, and Debra (Jim) Spence, of West Sunbury; his sister-in-law, Flo Carothers, of Chicora; two stepsons, Jeff (Christine) Lapen, of Harrisville, and Bruce Lapen, of Butler; several grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and dear friend, Joyce Cravener.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Joseph; stepson, Richard Lapen; great-nephew, Devin Kirk; and grandson, Harrison Lapen.

CAROTHERS — Family and friends of Ben F. Carothers, who died Monday, Feb. 23, 2026, will be received for visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at WILLIAM F. YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 132 Main St., West Sunbury.

Burial will be held privately.
