Butler Township man charged with strangulation, aggravated assault

A Butler Township man was charged with strangulation and aggravated assault Tuesday, Feb. 3.

Daniel James Cox, 39, threatened a woman and pointed a knife at her, asking her to kill him with it before he went to find firearms in the home, according to police.

Butler Township police charged Cox with one felony count each of aggravated assault and strangulation, and misdemeanor simple assault, following the Tuesday incident at a Westbrook Drive residence.

Police said Cox attempted to leave the residence following the incident, but the woman stopped him.

When attempting to stop Cox, he pushed the woman and grabbed her neck and chin with both hands, the affidavit said. The woman told police she thought Cox restricted her breathing for about a minute, and police reported seeing redness around the woman’s neck.

Cox’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Feb. 12 before District Judge Kevin O’Donnell. He’s being held in Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail.
