Ruth Chamberlain

Chamberlain

Ruth M. “Mom,” “Mimi,” “Dear friend,” “Gib,” “Aunt,” “Ruthie,” (Geibel) Chamberlain, 101 years young, of Butler, went to heaven on Friday, Jan. 30, 2026. She shared her last days with her family, her circle of love.

She was the middle child, born on July 14, 1924, in Butler, to the late Harvey and Helen Geibel.

She graduated at 16 from Butler High School and attended Lake Erie College before transferring to Penn State. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a minor in English.

A college friend, Mim, convinced her to join her in Washington, D.C. She got a job working as a travel agent for the Pennsylvania Railroad Station and booked trips for notorieties, like Douglas Fairbanks Jr.

Mim asked her to go to a party in Washington, D.C. At that party she met her husband, Lawrence “Larry” and six months later, they were married and together almost 50 years before he passed. They shared five children, Larry (Sara) Jr., Ellen, Elizabeth, John and the late Doug; seven grandchildren, Jenna, Kierstan, Carly, Cole, Grayson, John Jr. and Hanna; and three great-grandchildren, Alyson, Jaxson and Makenna. She is also survived by her sister, Jean “Sister” Ann.

She enjoyed tennis, volunteering, bridge, her condo in Myrtle Beach, playing cards and socializing with her favorite people, Manhattan in hand. But nothing was more important to her than her family!

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Doug (Tammi); her daughter-in law, Linda; and her brother, Robert.

She was loved by many and will be missed by even more!

She was so appreciative of the hospice team at Amedisys, especially Leetha, Ruth and Hillary.
