Charles 'Chub' Geibel

Geibel

Charles J. "Chub" Geibel, 79, of Gilpin Township died Thursday at his home after a lingering illness.

Born Sept. 29, 1928, in Freeport, he was the son of the late Melchidas M. and Mae (Dittmer) Geibel.

He lived in the Freeport area for years before moving to Gilpin Township in 1983.

Mr. Geibel was employed by William G. Christy Construction as a registered plumber, electrician and foreman for more than 30 years.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Guam during World War II. Mr. Geibel joined the military before graduating from Freeport High School. He later aced the GEDand earned his diploma.

He was a member of the VFW Post 6648 and past member of the I.O.O.F. Freeport Lodge.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting. crossword puzzles, playing cards on the Internet and tinkering in his garage. He followed the Steelers and NASCAR for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Pearl Glaister, Germaine Eshenbaugh and Julie Madison; and a brother, David Geibel.

Surviving are his wife, Rose Ann Steinhiser Geibel; three daughters, Janine Geibel, Roberta (Kirby) Mehrhof and Charlene (Jim) Johns; a son, Marcus Geibel; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
