Kentucky man charged with stalking television journalist fails to attend preliminary hearing

EVANS CITY — A Kentucky man missed his preliminary hearing Wednesday, Jan. 21, in a case where he’s accused of stalking a television journalist.

District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz issued a warrant for the arrest of Jeremiah Daniel Gregory, 32, of Versailles, Ky., who was charged Dec. 9 by Adams Township police with misdemeanor stalking and two misdemeanor counts of harassment.

All charges were held for court.

Officer Jessica Simons said she verified Gregory’s identity using the email addresses and phone numbers he used to contact the journalist.

She said Gregory had recognized the preliminary hearing date in emails to the journalist.

The journalist said she began receiving inappropriate emails from Gregory in 2018 when she worked for a television station in Kentucky.

The contact spread to other mediums and included explicit messages. The journalist said she had received hundreds of emails and other forms of contact from Gregory over four months.

The contact stopped when the journalist left the state and resumed in May, she said.

Simons explained Gregory was also charged with summary harassment in Kentucky, but the charge is not strong enough to extradite him to Butler County for hearings.

Gregory’s formal arraignment is scheduled for 1 p.m. March 10 in Butler County Common Pleas Courtroom 5.
