Butler student honored as ‘18 Under Eighteen’ member
Reese Sequite, a junior at Butler Area Senior High School, has been named one of this year’s “18 Under Eighteen” honorees by the Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania young professional organization.
Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania works with educators, families and the regional business community to help students simulate life beyond the classroom, with the intent of giving them confidence to pursue their dreams. The 18 Under Eighteen award is Presented by the EQT Foundation in partnership with Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania.
Now in its fifth year, the 18 Under Eighteen program honors a group of 18 students from across the region each year for their leadership and community service. Sequite is the first student from the Butler Area School District to be so honored.
A competitive swimmer on the Golden Tornados swim team, Sequite’s public service includes the creation of an adaptive swim program at the Butler YMCA, which offers swimming lessons to over 20 children with disabilities. She also founded the Medical Careers club at Butler Area School District, which hosts medical-themed career workshops, fundraisers and community service projects.
The group of 18 students will be honored at a special event at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 3.
According to a statement from the Butler Area School District, Sequite’s likeness may appear on a billboard near the Picklegate Bridge in Butler to celebrate her achievement.
