June E. Claypool, 85, of South Buffalo Township, passed away peacefully Monday, Jan. 12, 2026, at her residence.

June Elizabeth Spohn was born Feb. 11, 1940, in Dennys Mill, Butler County, daughter of the late Dorothy (Steele) and Elmer M. Spohn.

June was a 1958 graduate of the final class of Winfield-Clinton High School. She worked at Moonlight Mushroom Farms before pursuing her longtime goal of becoming a nurse. She was a graduate of the inaugural class of Lenape School of Practical Nursing.

She was a charter member of Freeport Assembly No. 129, International Order of the Rainbow for Girls and later served as the Mother Advisor and on the advisory board of that assembly as well as on the Senior Grand Executive Committee for Pennsylvania Rainbow. She loved traveling with the young women throughout the state and across the country. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. June was a lifelong member of Slate Lick United Presbyterian Church serving on session, as a Sunday school teacher and singing in the choir.

June loved to travel (favorites being the Western states and Hawaii) and in later years kept an atlas at her side to regularly check the map where her family might be traveling.

June is survived by her children, Tara (Chuck) Smith, Mandi (Pete) Shirley and Larry (Marijka Grissom) Claypool.

June loved spending time with her grandchildren, Courtney (Jimmy) Eiler, Devin Smith, Taylor (Ray) Geminetti, Katie (Andrew) Mason, Piper (Brad) Keener and Hannah Shirley. Her family also includes four great-grandchildren, Hayden, Ezra, Charlotte and Kinsley.

June was preceded in death by her husband, Jack. They were married Oct. 16, 1959, and were able to celebrate 54 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, McCabe Claypool; and stepmother, Sara Spohn.

CLAYPOOL — Friends of June E. Claypool, who died Monday, Jan. 12, 2026, will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, at REDMOND FUNERAL HOME, 524 High St., Freeport.

Additional visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at Slate Lick United Presbyterian Church, 106 Brown Road, Freeport. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor John Tirpak officiating.

Interment will follow at Slate Lick Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Slate Lick Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 534, Worthington, PA 16262.
