Gardasil
Tom writes that, in contrast to HPV infections, poliovirus infections aren't caused by anyone's moral behavior. I think in the 21st century it is long past time people discard their Puritanical biases toward sexual behavior. It is not, ipso facto, a moral lapse to engage in sexual intercourse outside of (or prior to) marriage. While some people may be immoral in their specific actions, a blanket condemnation of all premarital sexual behavior is not warranted and is wrong. Given the sheer numbers of those with HPV infections in this nation, I think this is no time to cling to erroneous Puritanical principles regarding morality. Furthermore, Tom criticizes my point regarding the cost savings that the vaccine offers as it staves off future treatments for cervical cancer by mentioning that euthanasia of "mongoloid" children also makes "economic sense." His comparison is a clear example of a non sequitur argument that has no basis in logic. In this discussion over a vaccine that unequivocally will better human life, I hope that more people have the rationality demonstrated by Fred of Australia in brushing aside the objections and classifying them, like he does, as illogical as the rantings of the KKK and Neo-Nazis.
