Butler man charged with endangering welfare of child after allegedly hitting son
A Butler man was charged after police say he struck his 3-year-old son while intoxicated.
Patrick Morris, 30, is facing a felony charge for endangering the welfare of a child and a misdemeanor simple assault charge relating to hitting his son during an argument with his girlfriend.
According to the affidavit, police were sent around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, to an apartment on South Washington Street for a report of a male having struck a 3-year-old in the face. The caller identified the male as Morris and gave a description of his clothing.
Police said they approached Morris on the front porch of the residence. He was wearing clothes that matched the caller’s description and appeared to be intoxicated. He told police he was sitting outside after arguing with his girlfriend, Kimberly Martin.
According to the affidavit, police questioned Martin who told them Morris was intoxicated when the two got into an argument. Police said she told them Morris trashed the apartment and grabbed her waist when she told him not to.
According to the affidavit, Martin told police that their three-year-old son began to cry before Morris turned and struck him across the mouth. Police then asked the boy whether he had been struck and where, to which he responded “yes” before grabbing his mouth.
Morris’ bail is set at $10,000. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. on Feb. 2, 2026, in front of District Judge William Fullerton.
