James P. “Doc” Stamps

James P. “Doc” Stamps, 67, of Lower Burrell died Friday at his home.

He was born Nov. 25, 1949, in Natrona Heights, to Mary C. Baker Stamps of Lower Burrell and the late Chester S. Stamps and was a life resident of the local area.

A musician, he excelled with percussion instruments, playing the drums and was associated with many of the local rock 'n' roll bands, especially The Chain — a Fleetwood Mac tribute band.

Jim was a graduate of Penn State University with a degree in liberal arts. A man of many interests, he was a member of the Society of American Magicians, Knights Templar, the former VFW Honor Guard, was a teacher and band director of Burrell High School and marching instructor for Valley High School and various other groups throughout the Pittsburgh area.

He participated in French and Indian War reenactments, liked ancient Greek history and enjoyed interacting with other people, making them laugh and was a magician.

He was also a member of St. Margaret Mary Church and the VFW in Lower Burrell.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 41 years, Eileen M. Duffy Stamps; his son, James M. (Michelle Engleman) Stamps; his daughter Kathleen M. (Robert Farr) Bercel; and his grandson, Declan J. Farr.

STAMPS — Friends of James P. “Doc” Stamps, who died Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the RUSIEWICZ OF LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3124 Leechburg Road at Alder Street, Lower Burrell, where funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
