Donald Luffy, 73, of Butler, formerly of Hooker, died Saturday at his home.

Born May 5, 1935, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Peter G. and Helen Herrlich Luffy.

He was a self-employed auto repairman.

He was an avid stock car racer. He started racing in 1959, and he raced until 2005 in the Pittsburgh Racing Association and later in the Pittsburgh Circle Track Senior Series. He received the Dapper Dan Award for Racing in 1961, and he's also in the Circle Track Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Bornscheuer Luffy, to whom he was married for 52 years; a son, Marty Luffy, and his wife, Janice, of Butler; two daughters, Donna Smith and her husband, James, of Butler and Lori Campbell and her husband, Dennis, of Butler; three brothers, William Luffy of Pittsburgh, Charles Luffy of Johnstown and Peter John Luffy of Johnstown; a sister, Mrs. Gerald (Helen) Coleman of Pittsburgh; six grandchildren, Brian Smith and his wife, Anita, and Justin Smith, David Smith, Danielle Smith, Kristin Campbell and Taylor Campbell.

<B>LUFFY</B>— Friends of Donald Luffy, who died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at <B>Martin Funeral Home</B>, 429 Center Ave., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church.Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.Members of St. Paul's Guild and Christian Mothers will meet at the church at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday to recite the rosary.Information is available at www.martinfh.net.
