Husband in prison on charges of killing wife, burning body

The husband of a city woman found dead and burned in her home on Dec. 3 is in the Butler County Prison this morning, charged with homicide.

Denny Winner, Sr., 44, of 117 Mercer St. is charged with criminal homicide, arson, burglary causing or risking a catastrophe and abuse of a corpse.

Winner's estranged wife, Lynette Winner, 36, was found burned beyond recognition in her 200 Columbia St. duplex when city firefighters responded to a fire call.

Police said they believe Winner was stabbed seven times and died before the fire was started on a bed mattress later to cover the crime.

Police said she was killed upstairs and her body was moved to the first floor where the fire was set.

State and city police are expected to release details later today.
