Saxonburg approves 2026 budget with slight surplus

Includes no tax increase

SAXONBURG — The borough is anticipating a slight surplus of $3,769 in its budget for 2026, which was approved by borough council at its meeting on Tuesday night, Dec. 16.

The budget calls for $952,481 in projected expenses and anticipates $956,250 in projected revenue.

There are no changes to the municipal real estate tax rate of 22.16 mills. However, for 2026, Saxonburg will introduce a separate 0.5-mill tax specifically for funding emergency services, which are provided by the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company’s ambulance division.

One mill is equivalent to one dollar of tax for every $1,000 of a property’s assessed value.

The majority of the township’s projected revenue is expected to come from taxes, with $284,000 projected to come from real estate taxes and another $242,210 expected from per capita taxes.

Over one-third of the projected expenditures are earmarked for the Saxonburg Police Department, at $388,124 — an increase from the $354,588 budgeted for the police for 2025.

In addition to serving Saxonburg, the police department provides services to both Summit and Oakland townships.

Also at Tuesday night’s meeting, supervisors voted to extend the police department’s contracts to serve both areas — Summit for three years, Oakland for one year.
