Butler County Prison board approves meal cost increases
The county prison board on Tuesday, Dec. 16, approved small increases in the cost of inmate meals and ratified a contract extension for inmate medical care.
Based on Consumer Price Index projections for 2026, the meal cost increases from Trinity Services Group, Inc., which specializes in food service for the corrections industry, is 0.072 cents per meal and 24 cents per kosher meal.
The new meal costs will be $2.012 per meal and $6.727 per kosher meal.
The medical care contract with PrimeCare Medical Inc. was extended from Oct. 1, 2025 to Dec. 31, 2026 at a cost of $213,862 per month. County commissioners approved the extension Dec. 3.
The board also agreed to spend $130 a month for a water softener from Ecolab to address a problem with hard water impacting the dishwasher.
As of Dec. 9, the prison had 353 inmates including 176 federal inmates and three from other counties.
