BUTLER TWP — The Butler County Community College Alumni Association selected this year's Distinguished Alumni Award recipients.
The awards recognize former BC3 students who make outstanding contributions in their professions and communities.
Recipients are:
• Kimberly Batty-Herbert ('79), dean of arts and sciences at South Florida Community College in Avon Park, Fla.
• Leonard "Lenny" Haney ('83), lead F/A-22 aircraft flight test instrumentation operations/design engineer at Lockheed Martin Aeronautical Systems Company in Marietta, Ga.
• Dr. Marlene Hassenfratz, D.O. ('98), physician-physiatrist at the University of Buffalo (N.Y.)
• Wayne Seibel ('74), retired police officer and current district court judge in Evans City
• Patrick "Rick" C. Smith ('72), retired special agent in charge with the Secret Service and current U.S. Marshal for the Western District of North Carolina in Charlotte.
These honorees will be recognized Oct. 4 at the Oak Hills Legacy Dinner in Founders Hall. Hors d'oeuvres begin at 6 p.m. Dinner and the ceremony will follow. Dinner reservations are $20 and must be made by Sept. 26.

JEFFERSON TWP — The South Butler School District agreed to use Foreman Architects and Engineers to plan a high school addition and renovation project.The school board Wednesday night approved the agreement with the architects, which has an office in Zelienople, on a 7-2 vote. Board members Richard Sefton and Debra Miller voted against the contract.Planning for the project will begin at 6 p.m. today with a meeting between the facilities committee of the board and the architects in the district administration office. The architects have suggested some alterations to the committee's design for the project.The project, expected to take 27 months to finish, will add classrooms and a dedicated wrestling room, and rearranges the cafeteria, library and gym.Preliminary plans expect the project to be completed in December 2010.
