BUTLER TWP — The Butler County Symphony Orchestra will present its final concert of the 2007-2008 season on May 3.

Following this season's concert theme "Spotlight on...," this concert is called "Spotlight on Sax-y Music."

The featured guest performers are the Capitol Quartet, with four accomplished saxophonists. If the name sounds familiar, it is because the quartet made its debut with the symphony in 2000. The group was so well received it merits another hearing.

Actually, the Capitol Quartet consists of five saxophonists, but only four of them play at one time. During the first half of the concert, they will play "Concerto for Saxophone Quartet" by Philip Glass, and after intermission they will play George Gershwin's "American in Paris" and some of his other tunes.

The Capitol Quartet, formed in 1991, owes its beginnings to a group of saxophonists serving in military bands in the Washington, D.C., area.

The personnel has changed since 2000. Its members now are Christopher Creviston, who will play the soprano saxophone in the Philip Glass concerto; Marty Nau, soprano sax in the Gershwin "jazz" portion; Joe Lulloff on alto sax; David Stambler on tenor; and David Lewis on baritone.

They all have impressive academic credentials. Stambler is a professor of saxophone at Penn State University, Lulloff at Michigan State, Creviston at the Crane School of Music in Potsdam, N.Y., and Nau at the Washington Conservatory of Music. Lewis spent four years with "The President's Own" United States Marine Band, where he played principal saxophone.

In addition to accompanying the Capitol Quartet, the Butler symphony will open the concert with "Gallop from the Comedians" by Dmitri Kabelevsky.

The symphony is under the direction of Elisabeth Heath-Charles.
