Butler man, woman accused of stealing more than $14K in equipment from employer

A Butler man and woman are accused of stealing 172 pieces of equipment valued at more than $14,000 from the man’s employer and using it for their own business.

Cody James Holt, 34, and Stephanie Marie Holt, 36, were each charged Monday, Nov. 17, with one felony count each of theft and criminal conspiracy to commit theft following an Aug. 27 report.

Police said the man’s employer, a Butler flooring contractor, reported Aug. 27 that Cody Holt had been progressively stealing products, equipment and tools over an undetermined period of time. The employer reported he stole 172 items valued at $14,142, including large commercial vacuums and generators.

Police spoke with Holt’s landlord and were told there’s a shed in the backyard for tenant storage.

Police executed a search warrant on the residence when only Stephanie Holt and several children were home. Police said they searched the residence and backyard shed and recovered the stolen items.

Police said Stephanie Holt told them Cody Holt also performed jobs for their own company in addition to his employer. Police said she indicated some of the employer’s stolen equipment found in the basement was used for their business.

Police said Stephanie Holt told them the items were not stolen.

Preliminary hearings for the two have not yet been scheduled.
