Knoch School District promoted from within to replace its retiring superintendent.

The school board announced Wednesday, Nov. 12, Melissa Grantz will serve as the district’s next superintendent. Grantz is currently the assistant superintendent.

Grantz’ appointment will be effective July 1, 2026. She is replacing David Foley, who has held the position for eight years and announced his upcoming retirement in October.

“Melissa is an outstanding school leader. I know she will do a great job. She’s very smart and she’s an extremely hard worker. She’s earned the respect of the administrative team and the staff and students. Obviously she’s earned the respect of the board,” Foley said. “She’s going to do great things for the district and the community.”

The district said in her current role, she has had an important part in advancing curriculum, instruction and professional development in the district.

Grantz was first hired by Knoch School District in 2008. She has held multiple roles since then, including teacher, assistant principal at the high school and principal of Knoch’s cyber academy.

“Knoch has been my professional home for many years and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to continue giving back to this community,” Grantz said. “I have been fortunate to learn from Dr. Foley, whose leadership has greatly influenced my growth as an educator and leader. I look forward to building up on the strong foundation already in place and continuing to support our students, staff and community in every way possible.”

“Throughout her tenure, Dr. Grantz has built strong relationships with students, families and staff across all grade levels. She has led numerous curriculum initiatives, supported districtwide instructional improvement and helped create a positive school culture. Additionally, she played a crucial role in the planning and decision-making process for the recent high school renovation project,” a district news release said.

According to the meeting agenda, Grantz will make an annual salary of $150,000.

The board approved appointing Grantz 9-0.

“We are pleased that Dr. Grantz has accepted this position. Her dedication and commitment to this district is unwavering. We look forward to continuing the strong leadership and educational excellence in our district. We believe Dr. Grantz is the perfect fit to continue this legacy,” board President Donna Eakin said, in a news release.
