Caroline A.L. Miller

Caroline Ann Louise Miller, 94, of Slippery Rock died the afternoon of Dec. 20, 2008, in her daughter's home in New Wilmington.

Born Dec. 9, 1914, in Pittsburgh, she was a daughter of the late John Paul and Caroline Diemer Ketz.

She married Louis Leopold Miller on Dec. 15, 1939. He died on Sept. 24, 1966.

Mrs. Miller had been a personnel assistant in charge of clerical training for the Pittsburgh Public Schools. She also had been an executive secretary at the First National Bank of Slippery Rock.

A member of Slippery Rock Borough Council from 1982 to 1990, she also served as council president.

Mrs. Miller was a life member of both the National Association of Educational Office Personnel and the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, Pittsburgh Chapter.

She was a former member and past president of the Slippery Rock Republican Women.

Mrs. Miller was a volunteer tax preparer for the IRS' Volunteer Income Tax Aid program for more than 25 years.

She was a former member of the Grove City Business and Professional Women's Club and belonged to the Slippery Rock AARP.

Mrs. Miller belonged to the United Methodist Church of Slippery Rock and was a member of the Kings Daughters at the church.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth L. and Frank Verterano of New Wilmington and Phyllis A. and Lilburn Cooper of Slippery Rock; three grandchildren and their spouses, Dawn and Michael Bastin of Cabot, and Wendy Cooper and Kent and Shayne Cooper, all of Slippery Rock; and five great-grandchildren, Brandon, Brooke, Brittany and Bryce Bastin, and Zachary Harrison Cooper.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Paul Ketz, Jr.; and a sister, Anna C. Dailey.

<B>MILLER</B> — Calling hours for Caroline Ann Louise Miller, who died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, are 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23 at the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Burial will be in Allegheny Cemetery, Pittsburgh, following a private service there.Memorial contributions may be made to the Slippery Rock VFD/Rescue Squad, Box 39, Slippery Rock, PA 16057 or to the Crisis Shelter of Lawrence County, 1218 W. State St., New Castle, PA 16101.
