Autumn may still be in the air but Butler County may get an early taste of winter this weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, Butler County will experience temperatures of 25 degrees on Sunday night, Nov. 9, along with a 70% chance of precipitation.

Snow showers are expected to continue on Monday, as the temperature will reach a high of 26 degrees, with a low of 22.

“We are looking at a system coming through that’s likely going to begin as rain on Sunday,” said Andrew Kienzle, meteorologist from the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh. “As we head into those late evening and overnight hours, we'll see a general changeover from rain to a rain/snow mix, and then all snow as we move into earlier portions of Monday.”

Kienzle says the northern portions of Butler County should expect the most snowfall, with accumulation as high as 1 inch.

“It looks like northern portions, especially the corner closer to Mercer County, have about a 60% chance that they could get over an inch of snowfall out of this system,” Kienzle said.

If snow does indeed fall on Sunday night and Monday morning, it would beat last year’s pace by nearly a month. In the fall and winter of 2024-25, the first snowfall of the year in Butler County did not take place until Dec. 2, according to data from the National Weather Service’s station in Slippery Rock.

Ultimately, 19.6 inches of snow fell on Butler County between December 2024 and March 2025.
