An elderly Winfield Township woman recently lost $21,000 in an investment opportunity scam, state police said.

The 85-year-old victim was contacted by an unknown man in December and offered up the bogus investment venture. Police said the suspected fraudster told the woman that she would need to send money for him to invest.

“The (suspect) promised that he would send money back to (the victim) from the profits,” according to a police report.

The women sent $21,000 “with no return,” the report noted.

Police said the theft by deception case is under investigation.
