'Twinderella' is enjoyable for all ages

Young cast does fine job

BUTLER TWP — Last night a slew of youth and teenagers brought to life the truly twisted tale of Cinderella during opening night of “Twinderella The Musical” at the Succop Theatre at Butler County Community College.

Sing Hosanna! assembled an adorable cast and clad them in delightful colorful costumes as they sang and danced their way through the story of Cinderella and her twin brother Bob.

Two story tellers, Evie Archer and Tori Cupps, were chosen to move the story along, and they did it nicely.

The show opened with a company number in the village courtyard introducing us to the cast of characters as they sang “Twinderella.” The audio was a bit of struggle during the first act but the message was not lost in the shuffle.

Cinderella and Bob, played by Nicole Ambrose and Christian Cendrowski, took the next song with “Cinderella, Do This; Bob, Do That” which was a great side by side duet lamenting the unfairness of their lives.

The stepfather and stepmother were played by Malachi Stephenson and Abby McAuley, who seemed to revel in their evil and cruel roles. They were convincing as they tag teamed with their broods to make the pair’s life miserable.

A hilarious take on “The Godfather” featured Max McAuley complete with side burns and violin case. He was quite comical and compelling at channeling his inner Marlon Brando. His henchmen, Than Archer and Alex Tweed, were a complimentary duo to the team gearing up to set Bob free.

Godmother Anna Fabrizzi was a sassy sprite who had no patience for smart talking mice. She and McAuley teamed up for “The Stroke of Twelve” which also featured an ensemble of doo wop kidlets who belted out the song with a 1950s vibe, complete with choreography.

The number was delightfully cheesy and fun and closed out the first act on a toe tapping note.

Act two opened to the royal ballroom where the twins meet their prospective partners Princess Petunia, Leah Harris, and Prince Percy, Trey Hixon. A dance and a baseball game slammed their relationships into a home run until the stroke of midnight.

The royals’ parents were a delightful dysfunctional pair played by Devin Cupps and Ameylia Lyon as King Roger and Queen Betty. Ameylia was commanding as the matriarch of the clan and vocal throughout.

During act two, scene three, the audience was treated to a delightful romp “You Got Work T Do” by the stepparents and siblings. It was during this song that we got to experience a hint of the vocal stylings of Abby McAuley. Her voice was rich and deep and a promise of things to come. It was a wonderful surprise of the night.

The final number “Celebration” was a raucous energetic, almost manic performance that left both audience and cast exhausted sending the show off with a bang.

It was a commendable performance with a cast of young actors and a silly stage play. Quick and enjoyable for all ages.

Under the direction of Ralph Christy, Jr. the final performance is at 7:30 p.m. today.
