Adams Twp. incumbent wins primary contest
ADAMS TWP — Longtime supervisor Linda Lees will move on to the general election in November despite challenges from two opponents in the Republican race.
In the Adams 1 precinct, Lees squeaked past newcomer Charles Clark, who is a member of the parent group from the Mars School District that opposes placing unconventional natural gas wells near the five Mars school buildings.
In that precinct, Lees earned 156 votes to Clark’s 131. The third candidate, Ronald Shemela, earned 77 votes.
In the Adams 2 precinct, Lees handily beat Clark 168 votes to 56. Shemela received more votes than Clark in that precinct, at 70.
Lees also took the Adams 3 precinct, with 296 votes. Shemela came in second in that precinct with 138 votes, and Clark earned 110 votes.
After the election results were in, Lees, a 24-year veteran of the board of supervisors, promised she will do her best to help the township grow.
“I’m feeling very blessed tonight,” Lees said. “All three precincts were behind me, and I’m very proud to serve and live in Adams Township.”
No Democrat candidates ran for the seat, so Lees will run unopposed in the general election.
