Know the facts about Pa. justices
There is a TV ad currently on the air asking voters to vote NO on retention of three current Pennsylvania Supreme Court justices.
The ad is misleading in several ways: 1) It says “Supreme Court,” not “Pennsylvania Supreme Court.” I believe many voters might mistakenly think the vote is for term limiting the U.S. Supreme Court, and many might favor this, given the recent unpopular rulings from this court.
2) The ad says that the Supreme Court overturned the conviction of a sexual predator, putting women and children at risk. The sexual predator in question is Bill Cosby, and the Supreme Court overturned his conviction because a Republican District Attorney, Bruce Castor, made a verbal agreement not to prosecute Cosby, leading Cosby to provide testimony in a civil case.
The Supreme Court simply ruled that this testimony couldn’t later be used against Cosby in violation of this agreement. Certainly no one likes or approves of what Cosby did, but he, like all residents of the U.S., has the right to due process.
The current slate of Supreme Court justices up for retention have been stalwart in defending our rights, including the rights to fair elections, well-funded public schools, and women’s health. Vote YES in November.
