Fond memories of Camp Redwood
Camp Redwing’s closing brings back many happy memories to me.
As a young scout, I camped every summer at Camp Trefoil but when I applied for my first job, I applied to the Girl Scouts of Southwestern Pennsylvania.
I happily spent nine weeks during the summers of my college years at that wonderful camp.
I had been accepted to college as a biology major, but “Mouse,” the camp director, assigned me to the Brownie Unit. The Brownie Unit! Not what I had expected.
But she was right. I found my calling and I changed my college major to elementary education. That led to a 37-year career teaching grades kindergarten through third grade in the Seneca Valley School District.
I still have my Camp Redwing staff jacket, some staff photos and snapshots of wonderful experiences as a camp counselor.
Fortunately, I never experienced any flooding there but I did read that recent flooding figured into the decision to close. Very sad about that but understandable.
Thanks for the memories, Camp Redwing, and farewell.
