New eight-home subdivision approved in Adams Township

ADAMS TWP — At its meeting on Monday night, Sept. 22, the township board of supervisors granted final approval to JSW Development to begin work on an eight-home subdivision to be located in the 200 block of Myoma Road.

Preliminary approval for the subdivision was granted by the township’s planning commission June 4 and by supervisors later that month. According to minutes from the planning commission meeting, the original plans called for nine lots instead of eight, but the number was reduced due to a stormwater issue which was later resolved.

“We’ve addressed all of the township engineers' comments, save for some housekeeping stuff like bonding and developers’ agreements which will be taken care of in the lead-up to construction,” said Shawn Mooney, project engineer from the Harshman Civil Engineering Group, speaking on behalf of the project.

Supervisors also approved increasing annual payments to Adams Area Fire District and Callery Volunteer Fire District by $50,000. Adams Area’s payment increased to $296,000 and Callery’s increased to $214,000.

Adams Township also receives a “foreign fire relief payment” each year, which provides a grant for local volunteer fire departments in the form of funds collected from a 2% tax levied by the state of Pennsylvania on proceeds from fire insurance policies. The township splits the grant on a roughly two-to-one ratio between Adams Area and Callery. This year, Adams Area will receive $102,579.11, while Callery will receive $51,304.94.
