Solar panel approval in Buffalo Twp. called a mistake

On Aug. 13, Buffalo Township supervisors conditionally approved two proposals for solar “farms” by two 4-1 votes.

Only Michael J. Oehling Jr. had the courage to oppose them. Supervisor Ron Zampogna III lamented that he had to support the proposal because he said he would have been a dictator if he said, “No you can't do it” to the landowners.

What Supervisor Zampogna didn’t seem to realize is he acted exactly like a dictator by approving something that benefits no one in Buffalo Township but the landowners, and is overwhelmingly opposed by township residents.

As William Pitts wrote of the meeting in his Aug. 14 article in the Butler Eagle, the proposals were met with “near-unanimous disapproval” by the residents in attendance because of concerns about safety and property value decline. No one in Buffalo Township will see their utility bill decline, nor will anyone receive a watt of power generated by the solar industrial site.

The solar company representatives and the four supervisors who voted for it showed no concern for the residents of New Horizon Estates, a trailer park located just 20 yards away from the solar array's proposed location.

The Buffalo Township supervisors did not act in the best interests of the residents of the township.
