Police find marijuana plants in Butler Township home
State police arrested a Butler Township man Friday after marijuana plants were found in his home following an investigation that began in April.
William R. Ringler, 53, was charged with felony counts of manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to deliver narcotics and prohibited possession of a firearm, and misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed in the county jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Troopers had been investigating numerous anonymous tips they received in April about drug activity at Ringler’s home at 124 N. Duffy Road when they pulled him over Friday after he left his home. He was in possession of narcotics during the stop, according to an affidavit.
Police obtained and executed a nighttime search warrant after Ringler said during an interview there were three marijuana plants, paraphernalia and possibly a rifle in his home. A grow operation with three mature marijuana plants, five starter plants and growing equipment was found in his basement. A semiautomatic .556-caliber rifle was found above the furnace duct work and ammunition was found in his bedroom, according to the affidavit.
Police said Ringler has a previous felony conviction that prohibits him from possessing a firearm.
A preliminary hearing for Ringler has not yet been scheduled.
