Spencer Valasek powers Freeport boys soccer to rout; Moniteau cross country rolls: Highlights & scores
Spencer Valasek scored a pair of goals and dished out three assists to lead Freeport to a 9-0 blowout win Tuesday night over Leechburg.
The road victory is the Yellowjackets’ first of the season, getting them to 1-0-1 and 1-0 in WPIAL Section 1-2A play. TJ Clark scored another goal and had two assists, and Judah Thompson had a clean sheet in net.
Gateway 4, Butler 2 — Jude Perhacs scored both goals, on assists by Lian Kovach and Noah Simmons, in this road contest and season opener.
North Catholic 8, Ellwood City 0 — Ryan Mueser recorded a hat trick, and Jackson Schlegel dished out two assists in the Trojans’ blowout win. Colin Piila, Dom Verdi, Dylan DeVore, Jake Olkowski and Ethan Parnell also scored.
Slippery Rock 3, Wilmington 1 — Eli Flowers, Wade Freehling and Logan Berry all had goals for the Rockets.
Burrell 3, Knoch 1 — Luke Myers had a goal on an assist from Adam Cristalino in the loss. Ryan Karwoski stopped 12 shots on goal.
Seneca Valley 4, Fox Chapel 1 — Max Gochis, Bryson Valentinovich, Luke West and Jacob Prex all scored in the Raiders’ home win.
Lexi Caldwell had a double-double of 22 assists and 10 digs to lead Slippery Rock to a 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-18) road win over Hickory for the Rockets’ second win in as many nights. Savannah Smith had a big night at the net with 10 kills and six blocks, and Gia Kovacik recorded seven kills and 10 digs.
Redbank Valley 3, A-C Valley 1 — Gianna Louise had eight kills and 10 digs, and Lexi Altman recorded 11 assists and 10 digs in the Falcons’ loss by set scores of 15-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-20.
Moniteau 3, Union 1 — The Knights’ Lilly Hayden had 37 digs in the loss, moving her 14 away from 500 for her career. The scores of the match were 25-22, 24-26, 19-25 and 14-25.
Emily Matz led the Warriors with 23 kills and six aces.
Clarion Area 3, Karns City 0 — Addison Fox had 13 assists, 13 digs and two aces in the straight set loss by scores of 25-11, 25-15, 25-14. Aubrey Fox recorded 11 digs, six kills, three aces and an assist.
Pine-Richland 3, Mars 0 — Gabi Weidemann had 19 assists and 16 digs for the Planets.
Seneca Valley 3, Armstrong 0 — No stats were reported.
Moniteau’s boys and girls swept Cranberry Area and Brookville in a tri-meet. Peyton Beck ran 19:07 to win the boys race, which the Warriors claimed 43-20 over Cranberry and 47-16 over Brookville. Alexis Kirschner’s 23:56 led Moniteau to wins of 37-22 (Cranberry) and 33-24 (Brookville).
Butler fought off rival Seneca Valley 3-2, sweeping the singles matches in a home match. Cassie Busler beat Ella Marley in Singles 1 6-2, 6-1, then Lindsay Lipp beat Kayla McKenzie 6-3, 6-1 in Singles 2. Noel Ernst claimed the third singles match 6-4, 7-5 over Alivia Metz.
Monique Polas and Imogen Culley got SV a Doubles 1 victory, and Evie Miske and Ella Jacisin claimed the other doubles matchup.
Jackson Kane shot a 38, finishing second overall, to lead Freeport to a 208-212 win over Deer Lakes at Pheasant Ridge Golf Club. The Yellowjackets’ depth — their top five all shot 46 or less — proved the difference despite the Lancers getting two golfers under 40.
Brody Vogel and Max Zigo scored 40s on the par-36 back night for Freeport (6-2, 4-2 section).
KSAC Mega Match — A-C Valley/Union’s Joe Rapp and Karns City’s Liam Hobaugh finished in a three-way tie for second at Wanango Country Club with rounds of 39. The Gremlins finished third with a collective 182, beating Moniteau (185) and the Falcon Knights (186).
Keystone won the match, led by Sean Karg’s 36. Carson Minnear led Moniteau with a 43, tying for eighth.
Seneca Valley 196, Central Valley 234 — Lucas Barber and the Raiders cruised to a win at Cranberry Highlands Golf Course. Barber shot a 37, while teammates Bradley Steiner, Will Pefferman and Evan Hock shot 38s.
Emily Tillapaugh shot a 42, leading Mars to a comfortable 181-230 win over Blackhawk at Suncrest Golf Course. Elise Wadas and Raegan Graham shot 44 and 46, respectively, for the Planets.
KSAC Mega Match — Kennedy Sullivan shot a 47, finishing third while leading Moniteau to a win at Stoughton Acres Golf Course with a team total of 150, four strokes better than Brookville. A-C Valley finished tied for third with a 158, led by Kennedy Kinney’s 49 and Ruby Watson’s 50.
