PSU's Robinson nearing records
MINNEAPOLIS — Apparently, Allen Robinson hates wasting time.
With four games left in Penn State’s season, including Saturday’s matchup with surging Minnesota at TCF Bank Stadium, Robinson is on pace to obliterate two of the school’s single-season receiving records and further make a case as the best wideout in the history of the Nittany Lions.
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound junior caught 165 yards worth of passes in last week’s overtime win over Illinois and boosted his total for the season to 1,048, second in FBS. He needs just 37 yards against the Golden Gophers to break Bobby Engram’s mark for most yards in a season, 1,084, set in 1995.
Robinson’s 11 catches last week — his third double-digit game of the season — gave him 66 for the season, 11 short of his own school record. He has 146 receptions in his career, currently in fifth place, 33 short of Deon Butler’s school record.
Robinson said he’s not thinking about records.
“I wouldn’t say that I targeted records or anything like that but one of my goals was definitely to be the best player that I could be,” Robinson said. “I’m going to try to get better at doing that.”
