A Butler woman out on bail on charges in a felony drug case is back in trouble with the law after city police said they found her with heroin and crack cocaine.

Jennifer A. Young, 38, faces a hearing next month on charges that followed her latest arrest.

Police said they spotted Young around 8 p.m. May 8 while responding to a call for suspicious activity on the 400 block of North Chestnut Street.

The defendant is accused of running to the back of a garage and she appeared to be trying to hide a purple bag, police said. Officers told her to come out, but she did not immediately comply. She eventually gave up.

The officers searched the bag, according to charging documents, and found 14 stamp bags of suspected heroin and a container with suspected crack. Also in the bag were three syringes and other drug contraband.

Additionally, police said they linked her to a crack pipe, a scale and three more syringes that were seized during the investigation.

She is charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 10.

Police are not unfamiliar with the defendant. They nabbed her Feb. 28 on a felony arrest warrant in connection with a drug deal last year, authorities said.

The warrant, issued to the Butler County Drug Task Force, accused Young of selling crack to a police informant on May 15, 2018, in the city.

Police said that after they arrested her on the warrant, they found her with crack hidden in her bra. They later charged her with misdemeanor drug possession.

She was placed in the county prison on felony drug charges in the task force case. She was released four days later, court records showed, after posting $10,000 bail.

But when she failed to appear for her formal arraignment in that case on May 7, a Butler County judge issued a bench warrant for her arrest.

Young was placed in the prison on the warrant May 8 and released the following day after the court reinstated her previous bail.
