Knoch High School students will get to enjoy their traditional high school bonfire this September, but in a different location than usual, according to the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company.

The volunteer fire company said Wednesday that while it will not be able to stage the local tradition at the carnival grounds, it is working to accommodate the tradition in another way.

The bonfire may be located in a designated area of the fire company’s field off Horne Avenue on Thursday, Sept. 18, the company said. This is yet to be determined.

The school’s traditional bonfire and parade appear to coincide with the borough’s final Mingle on Main event along Main Street and comes the day before the fire company’s Sportsman’s Fest.

The fire company will be setting up for its Sportsman’s Fest, which runs Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $100 and include two-day admission to the event with food and beverages and chances to win in 110 drawings for prizes and cash.

According to Paul Donaldson, ambulance supervisor and event coordinator for the Saxonburg company, the homecoming parade will go on, too.

The festivities happen the day prior to Knoch’s homecoming football game against New Castle High School on Sept. 19.
