Martha Barnhart

Martha Barnhart, 79, of Upper Yoder Township, Cambria County, died Wednesday.

Born Oct. 21, 1930, in Johnstown, she was daughter of the late Heinrich and Otillie (Zimmer) Streilein. She also was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James R. Barnhart in 2004; and siblings, Ruth E. Ferg and Albert E. Streilein.

She is survived by sons, Jason Barnhart and his wife, Karen, of Greensburg and Thomas Barnhart and his wife, Sandra, of West Sunbury; siblings, Henry Streilein and his wife, Carol, of Johnstown and Kathryn Huston and her husband, Kevin, of Indiana, Pa.; a brother-in-law, David Ferg of Hanover; and several nieces and nephews.

Martha worked for several different companies in the Johnstown area; and for the past 20 years, she worked at the Westmont School District, first as a career counselor, then as a secretary in the library and with the athletic director, retiring in 1992.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a youth leader at Zion Lutheran Church, where she was a life member.

<B>BARNHART</B> — Friends of Martha Barnhart, who died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary</B>, 921 Menoher Blvd., West Hills. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael Van Dyke officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church or to the Alzheimer's Association in Martha's memory.
