Decades of tax cuts have left heavy toll
As children of the 1930s, a few of us still recall the era of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1933-1945), who mobilized the Greatest Generation of Americans, through the Great Depression and World War II. After that, prosperity and opportunity reigned in America, bringing the best years of our lives to the children of the Great Depression, and beyond.
At the turn of the century, I believe America began to lose its way. As president, George W. Bush in 2003 slashed trillions of dollars in tax cuts for the rich. He copied Ronald Reagan (1981-1989) who incrementally reduced taxes for the rich, from 70% to 28% over eight years. In 2008, under George W. Bush, the greatest economic disaster since the Great Depression cost America's treasury $31.1 billion to bail out corrupt Wall Street banks, and no one went to jail.
Over four years, (2017-2021) President Donald Trump guided America's destiny in lawless violation. I feel he attained a moral decay in America that today enhances the money coffers of the wealthy, while undermining the needs of the people. Republican tax cuts for the rich have contributed to a national debt that now exceeds $30 trillion.
The first 100 days of the Trump second term have brought unprecedented chaos to America. His tariff wars have startled the world.
