Mazie E. Cooper
Mazie Edna Patterson Cooper, 90, of 146 Normal Ave., Slippery Rock, died at 6:25 a.m. Sunday at her home.
Born in Springfield Township, Mercer County, Aug. 24, 1915, she was the daughter of Francis C. "Patty" Patterson and Edna M. McElheny.
She was a homemaker and had worked at the Knauss Drug Store and later at Rite Aid, both in Slippery Rock.
Mrs. Cooper was a member of the North Liberty Presbyterian Church since 1932 and had taught Sunday school and Bible school. She was an honorary life member of the Presbyterian Women of the church.
She also was a member of the Slippery Rock Grange, where she was secretary for more than 50 years and was a member of the Pomona Grange, where she was secretary for more than 28 years. She also belonged to the Slippery Rock Democratic Women and voted for 50 consecutive years.
When WQED started fundraising in the Slippery Rock area, she was one of the first to help. She was an avid quilter and won many ribbons for her excellent needlework.
Surviving are her husband, Kenneth Harry Cooper, whom she married Sept. 15, 1932; a daughter, Sandra Ferguson of Sharon; three sons, Clifford Cooper and his wife, Ruth, of Butler, Thomas Cooper and his wife, Nina, of Slippery Rock and Robert Cooper and his wife, Suzanne, of Alta Loma, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
A brother, Tom Patterson, and two sisters, Lois Scott and Ruth Pearson, preceded her in death.
<B>COOPER </B>— Friends of Mazie Edna Patterson Cooper, who died Sunday, June 18, 2006, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the <B>Smith Funeral home</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Visitation also will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Slippery Rock Baptist Church, 435 Keister Road, Slippery Rock, where services will follow at 11 a.m. The Rev. Jerry Mahaffey, her church pastor, and Rev. David Barnhouse, pastor of the Slippery Rock Baptist Church, will officiate.
