Post-fair traffic a headache
My wife and I attended the Big Butler Fair on July 4. We arrived at 6 p.m. and were parked about as far from the entrance as you could be.
We enjoyed the food, watched the tractor pull and draft horse pull and had a really good time. Although the fireworks were late, we enjoyed watching them.
When they were over, a bit after 10 p.m., we started the hike to our car. At 10:20 p.m., we were in our car and did not move at all until an hour later … 11:26 p.m. … when we moved about 100 feet and then sat again. Finally, at 12:45 a.m., we started moving again and got out onto Unionville Road. We arrived home after 1 a.m.
For an event that has been going on for as many years as the Butler fair, I’d have thought this problem would have been solved years ago. We’ve never had to sit in our car for over two hours to exit a parking lot, including exiting Pittsburgh Steelers games.
We were going to treat our kids and grandkids next year, but there’s no way I would put them through that.
