Butler County's great daily newspaper

Immigration enforcement has gone too far

The lead article in the Butler Eagle on July 1, “Butler County Sheriff Seeks OK to work with ICE,” made me sick. Remember the saying that they came for one group of people, then a different group, and another and so on; but look out because you may be next?

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement was supposed to go after convicted murderers, rapists and terrorists. If you are in the military as an American citizen, your undocumented wife may be shuttled off to Alligator Alley. Maybe mosquitoes and alligators would be better than El Salvador.

You may be in danger if you were born in the U.S. from undocumented parents. And the list goes on and on.

It reads as if our sheriff, who is supposed to keep us safe, has applied to turn his responsibilities over to masked, weapon-carrying ICE agents. Will this rip apart families as happened in the first Trump administration?

Who would have thought our Butler County Sheriff’s Department would be a proud, willing participant in this exercise of injustice.

Louise D. Tanner,

Butler Township
