Several fire departments responded to an attic fire on West Boyd Avenue in Butler shortly after 2 p.m. Monday, June 30.

Chris Switala, chief of the Butler fire department, said the cause of the fire was still being investigated. He added several neighbors had reported a lighting strike in the general area before the fire was called in, and the department was looking into it.

The home is on the 100 block of West Boyd on the city’s South Side. Butler City Bureau of Fire, Butler Township Volunteer Fire District, VA Butler Fire and Emergency Services, and Butler Ambulance Service responded to the scene, with Adams Area Fire District on standby.

Dispatch said responders on scene reported smoke showing from the home. Smoke was initially seen coming out of the top level window, but was under control by 2:30 p.m.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire, and one pet was left unharmed, Switala said. Damage was limited to the attic.
