Sheriff’ department searching for prison inmate who walked out of hospital

The Butler County Sheriff’s Department is searching for a prison inmate who left Butler Memorial Hospital while under their care.

Michael A. Demko, 45, was charged Thursday, June 27, with misdemeanor escape following the June 6 incident.

Police said Demko was transported to Butler Memorial Hospital from Butler County Prison for admission. He was there from June 3 to June 6 before he walked out of the hospital around 12:30 p.m. with an IV and other monitors still in place.

His location was still unknown on Tuesday, marking 18 days since he was under hospital care.

He was charged June 14, 2025, with use/possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sheriff Mike Slupe said he poses no immediate danger to the public.
