Aria O’Brien, a fifth-grader at Haine Middle School in the Seneca Valley School District, was one of five winners in a western and central Pennsylvania coloring contest, netting a $1,000 donation to her school from Edgar Snyder & Associates.

The Heyward House asked local elementary school students how they can be heroes in its “How to Be a Hero” Coloring Contest. More than 2,000 students submitted their answers, and five were selected as winners.

Aria drew a picture that highlighted the Best Buddies program, which focuses on ensuring that those with disabilities are fully integrated into society.

“Even if people have differences, they can still make a great friend. People are still nice, no matter their differences,” she said of her picture.

Aria said she wants to donate some of her winnings to Haine’s Best Buddies program. Her artwork will be displayed on a billboard as part of her being selected as a winner.
