Butler woman gets probation in child endangerment case
A Butler woman was given a two-year probation sentence after pleading guilty to a charge filed by Butler police last year after cocaine was found in the system of a 13-month-old child in her care.
In addition to 24 months of probation, Jasmine M. Hans, 23, was sentenced Wednesday in Common Pleas Court to pay a $150 fine, complete 20 hours of community service, undergo drug and alcohol and mental health assessments, attend parenting classes and comply with involvement from the county Children & Youth Services agency.
Hans pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child that police filed in March after the child was taken to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Police said a report was filed Jan. 31 stating the child was brought to the hospital by a babysitter. The babysitter had concerns about the child’s safety and identified Hans as the primary caregiver. A cocaine metabolite was found in the child’s system following a test, according to police.
Her probation can be terminated after 18 months if she completes all the terms and commits no violations.
