Charity concert benefits family of Chicora man killed in boating accident
CHICORA — After a recent Erie boating accident killed his cousin, David “Bullwinkle” Rodgers, Zach Scherer and the Scherer Foundation are holding a charity concert to benefit Rodgers’s family.
Rodger died in a capsized fishing boat on Lake Erie while taking children who are cancer survivors fishing June 30. The concert will donate 100% of proceeds to Rodger’s immediate family.
The concert fundraiser will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, July 24, at 102 Rabbitt Road in Chicora.
The event will feature food trucks, multiple raffles and a bonfire. The band Big Bad Scary will perform from 8 to 11 p.m.
The fee to attend is $10 at the door, with no registration necessary.
The Scherer Foundation is a nonprofit organization focused on people in need. It benefits veterans, families, organizations, children and communities.
The foundation is still looking for businesses to help sponsor next Friday’s event.
“Dave was more than just a name in our community — he was a friend, neighbor and familiar face to so many,” the Scherer Foundation wrote in the Facebook post announcing the Rodgers family as the concert’s new beneficiaries. “In times like these, small towns do what they do best: They come together to support one another.”
“This man touched a lot of lives,” Scherer said of Rodgers. “Hopefully, the community can return the favor.”
Any business interested in sponsoring the concert can reach out on the Scherer Foundation Facebook page.
